Ile de la Tortue is a rocky and mountainous island of Haiti, located close to the north coast of the main island. The fishing port of Basse-Terre, on the south coast of the island, is home to the Fort de Rocher, a ruined 17th century building. It was once a stronghold for pirates. To the east, the cave at the Bassin, has a large pre-Columbian sculpture representing a woman. The beaches include Pointe Ouest and its stretch of white sand at the western end.(Wikipédia)
